Many Birthdays

Biography:
Many Birthdays started as a home recording project in the dark, windowless apartment of John Dixon. It went through many forms and phases, finally traveling with John and Sarah Luce from AUstin, TX to Osaka, Japan in 2003-04, gathering momentum from the Japanese landscape. After returing to Austin the band began transforming itself into a live show with the most recent additions of Henna Chou and Rachel Fuhrer. Their self-released, limited edition "Days of Beat / Days of Hollow EP" sold out within a year. The latest EP "Emptiness is Forever", was released by the band in Spet of 2008 and sold exclusivly at shows. The official release on Thirty Ghosts is now available.

The music mixes noise, beats, melodies, colors and textures into a swirling and somewhat unpredictable sound pool. The lyrics are a combination of English and Japanese, sometimes sandin beautifl rhymes, sometimes chanted, and sometimes shouted in chaotic rhythms. The live performances are like a spectacle, a subtlety and an art project rolled up into one. Imagine a black cat who drinks gin, dances and loves literature and you have Many Birthdays.

Many Birhtdays has played with touring acts such as Lymbyc System, Eliot Lipp, El Olio Wolof & CEX. Some local Austin bands MB has shared the stage with include Ume, My Education, The Invincible Czars & Single Frame. They played 2 sets at First NIght Austin in 2008 to an enthusiastic crowd of 2000. In the Spring of '08 Mant Birthdays took their electric sweetness on the road and completed a successful 2 week tour to the East coast. The tour schedule and diary can be found on their website manybirthdays.net. This past October they played KVRX Local Live & opened for Gossip on Emo's outside stage. Their debut six-song EP, Emptiness is Forever, was released March 10th, 2009.
